Adaptations, Remakes, Sequels, and Prequels...Whew.
I started watching Sin senos sí hay paraíso on Netflix, and the other night during an episode, I wanted to look up some of the actors (a terrible habit of mine). So, I went to Google and typed in the title of the telenovela, and was met with so many versions/sequels/prequels of the same show. I knew of Sin senos no hay paraíso, but I thought it was a remake of Sin senos sí hay paraíso rather than the prequel. This kind of worried me at first, because I don't want to get confused by just watching the sequel, but there's a ten year gap between the two shows, so I think I'll be alright. Also, there's a sequel to the sequel I'm watching called El final del paraíso. I mean, with about ninety episodes per season and roughly three seasons per show, I think it would take me a year to watch the whole series. Makes total sense why people obsess over telenovelas!
Seeing all these different versions of the same show reminded me of when we talked about Yo soy Betty, la fea in class. Betty has been remade several times in several different countries and really is a household name at this point. It's incredible to see how many times a show can be adapted, especially for countries with varying culture and society. For instance, in the US version, Ugly Betty is a comedy show with several seasons, it does not follow the traditional telenovela format because that is not a regular part of American culture. By doing this, Ugly Betty has become extremely popular in the country.
Hola Lauren!
