The universality of telenovelas and fútbol

For my telenovela, I decided to begin watching La Selección, a show based on the national Colombian fútbol team. It was very exciting to me that telenovelas are so varying in content, that I could merge choosing the show with my favorite sport.

Though in reality, this should not have been surprising to me that there was a telenovela about fútbol considering its popularity throughout the world. I was honestly surprised there weren't more.

In Mexico, fútbol was how I passed time with my cousins when we had nothing to do. In England, fútbol was how I learned to connect with people I had never met before, to work together and make new friends. At home, fútbol was where my brother and I could get along most, as it greatly helped me relate to him.

Overall, fútbol was important in my life, and with a single Google search, I could find a telenovela about it. As we've learned in class, there's a very wide variety of topics that telenovelas may focus on. It is irrational for a person to claim they do not like telenovelas as a whole, as there as so many different shows, they need only find one that relates to something else important in their life.

My telenovela mixes real life with fiction, as it creates new stories from the lives of four Colombian fútbol players as they go through various trials. It looks like it will be entertaining and inspiring.

Telenovelas are severely under appreciated for the immense number of genres they can cover, I am looking forward to seeing how a personal interest of mine pans out in the telenovela world.
