Biggest Jigsaw Puzzle Ever

Learning about telenovela production in class has been interesting, because, personally, I have never really known how any sort of television is produced. Seeing how many people are involved and the steps it takes to create just a single episode makes it shocking that traditional telenovelas end up consisting of over 100 episodes.

My biggest interest throughout learning about production is how seamlessly edited these series are by the time of airing. For example, the behind the scenes of Kara Para Aşk looked very underwhelming, but upon seeing the finished product, it looked incredible. The magic of editing is something that people seriously undermine.

Also, it’s crazy to me that episodes are filmed out of order. I always kind of knew that movies and shows weren’t filmed chronologically, but it is very impressive that actors and directors don’t get confused while filming different parts of the show out of order. I can’t even fault them for messing up sometimes (like different nail polish colors in the same scene) because if I was a director I would be far more concerned about remembering what’s going on. It’s like the largest, most convoluted jigsaw puzzle in the entire world.

Although American television shows are also impressive production-wise, many of them only consist of 10 episodes per season, with seasons spaced out sometimes years apart. For this reason, I find telenovela production especially wild. Filming over 100 episodes in random order cannot be easy!

  2. Sometimes I wonder what it is like for an actor or actress to film episodes out of order. How are they supposed to tap into a space where they are able to carry out certain emotion or feel without filming the scenes that prompted them to begin with? I have a friend who filmed as an extra for a television show on Netflix called Scream Queens. They started with a scene that came at the end of an episode, in the middle of the season. Not only do they film episodes out of order, but scenes as well!
