The World behind Telenovelas
When you think of telenovelas, you think of the drama, the protagonists, the stars, and the behind the scenes drama. But we never truly think of behind the scenes. We do not give credit to the teams that made the Telenovela possible in the first place. The production behind a single Telenovela seems quite large. You have to directors, producers, the writing Tim, floor manager, and so on. It can take up to two hours to get the perfect shot that would be used for the Telenovela.
Learning about what truly happens behind the scenes to have a telenovela aired on television was an eye opener. I have grown-up watching telenovelas and had never taken into account the writing teams that have to make a script in advance and must be able to adjust the plot to fit the new drama between the actors or the audience's demands. It is an extensive process. Telenovela seasons can reach to be sixty episodes. The writing team must be able to keep the storyline going and continue to have cliffhangers at the end of each episode. It involves hours of brainstorming, researching, and collaborating in order to prevent a telenovela from being a copy of a previous episode or another telenovela.
Then you must think about what will be included in the scenes such as location, wardrobe, and music. What the actors wear in each scene is decided depending on their character's personality and how the scene is written. For example, if it is a sad scene, the characters should avoid wearing bring colors, and instead option for more neutral toned clothing. The same process is used for music. There are songs that are dedicated to specific moments throughout the telenovela's air time. For example, happy moments between a couple may have the same song in the background through the telenovela series.
It was interesting to learn how telenovelas come to life and the world behind the scenes.
This was a very interesting topic to learn about, after having seen a few episodes. Like with mine, I learned how they actually rarely used sets, and really traveled to different cities and countries to obtain the footage of the players at various locations. And imagining the intimate scenes filmed with so many people is funny, but also so strange to picture happening.
ReplyDeleteAnd I also had never thought of the writing teams' efforts and battle with production to make the scenes happen. I mainly imagined they wrote and performed without much struggle, but it makes sense that some scenes too large could not be done. I've got no clue how they could have such creativity and thoughtfulness to come up with enough content to allow for daily episodes.
Lastly, the thought process for music and costumes is so much careful and precise choosing, it amazes me they do it for daily episodes. I wouldn't notice without paying attention, but you unconsciously notice/feel it in the episodes when more sympathetic emotion is experienced/allowed because of those changes.
